BUKKWEAT BILL INTERVIEW
From the minute we got put onto BUKKWEAT BILL; here at JG, we got everything we needed to know quickly. The catchy, friendly little loop at the beginning of “666Forever” sounds like something you’d hear coming out of an ice cream truck - but then the bass kicks in, and so does Bill. “Alright first off I’m From Florida/Shoot first, and go to trial later/ Bukkake boys, them thug niggas, them wild skaters.” Okay. Meeting adjourned - we officially fuck with the kid.
It isn’t so much the way he writes (All caps, no C’s) that makes him stand out, nor his dreds, or even face tattoos, but its his no-holds-barred attitude and brash delivery that makes you turn your head - not in a way that begs for your attention, but earns it. And of course no topic for him is off limits in his music- drug use, stints in jail, upside down crosses, probation, his baby mom’s mother hating on him, etc.
At 22, he’s already etched out a bright future in the rap game, linking up with Soulja Boy’s SODMG, and staying tight with Diplo, which through him, Bukk got himself management by the affiliated tag-team duo of Lil Government X Lil Internet to form Lil Agency. He recently, dropped his debut EP, ‘8666.’ It’s nearly entirely self-produced, with dark, booming beats that pair perfectly with his lyricism. Stand out tracks like “Paper or Plastik” “Lizzy Borden” and “For Nuttin” serve as a testament to this.
Between shooting videos, making music, plotting career moves, and being in the hospital as he just had his first child brought into the world, somehow Bukk was able to talk to us about his music, fatherhood, & what animal he would be. And although he’s self-aware “Mama, I need to slow down, I drink lean on a high speed” - it doesn’t seem apparent he’s pumping the breaks anytime soon.
